Hello Uwe Hilgert and Jermel Watkins,

Thank you for paying attention to the issue of FXTAS - which is a very common characteristic among the carriers of the premutation expansions of the fragile X gene.

Often the 'carriers' are thought to be spared most of the problems associated with the full Xq27 mutation, but the severe tremors in grandfathers of Fragile X children appear to be an exception.

More details at:
http://www.fragilex.org/html/fxtas.htm

I also would like to point to the fact that various other aspects of the hand provide quite a few more clues on Fragile X syndrome (and these appear to be present in the 'carrier' parents as well - though with a lower frequencey).

More details at:

Any comments on the other hand aspects ...?

Dear Suzanne,

Thank you for reading my blog and submitting a question. I am sorry that you experience increasing hand tremors and I imagine that this must be quite unsettling. However, as I am not a medical doctor myself I recommend that you consult with a medical professional about your condition. In addition, you could try to gather your own information by visiting the web sites of relevant professional organizations. For example, the Internet site of the Fragile X Foundation may provide you with an idea whether it is a possibility at all that your experiences could be based on the genetic condition called FXTAS.
